Reaching Baby Boomers on the Internet

Sales is PUSH. It’s where you try to convince people to do something they may or may not want to do. It’s fancy words and flashy gimmicks that try to persuade someone that your option is best for them, whether it is or not.

A good example of that is a job I once had selling cars and trucks. As part of the training, we were required to learn, both by name and technique, about thirty different “closes.” After every visit with a customer, we would get grilled by the Sales Manager on how the sales process went.

“What close did you use right then?

“I did the Ben Franklin.”

“No, No, NO!!! How many times do I have to tell you that you use the Alternative of Choice close there?”

You want a red four door car, but I have a special deal on a blue two door, so I try to “sell” you on the blue two door and push you into buying it. That’s sales.

Marketing, on the other hand, is about PULL. It’s about identifying a target market, and giving them a reason to come and look at what you’ve got. It recognizes that whether it’s blue jeans or a network marketing opportunity, the product or service doesn’t fit everyone.

It’s not just about finding people; it’s about finding the RIGHT people. It’s not “YOU HAVE TO CHECK THIS OUT!!!!!!!!” It’s “You have this problem or question, and here is an answer.”

Want more success? If you find yourself pushing, stop. You don’t like to be pushed, and neither does anyone else. However, we DO like to find solutions to our problems. Provide those, and your business will prosper.

Monica J. Lindeen, the state Commissioner of Securities and Insurance, says Fortune Hi-Tech Marketing took nearly $1.9 million from at least 1,295 Montana participants between July 2006 and June 2009.

Lindeen says the company lures new members with income opportunities with companies such as Dish Network and General Electric. But, she says, members only benefit if they recruit others to join in the alleged scam.

Whether you’re good or bad at multi-tasking doesn’t matter. Most of us do it anyway (or try to). Sometimes it’s little distractions that don’t take much time to sort out. Other times it’s a whole new project started in the middle of the previous one.

It’s interesting to see how the traffic different companies get compares. Last month, Avon, Pampered Chef, and Mary Kay accounted for nearly 1/4 of all mlm traffic and interest. Lia Sophia was five times as popular as Pre-paid Legal.

You also can track which companies are gaining and which are losing ground. There are graphs for the last month, and for the last six months.

There are also links to the Npros.com database, which has optin lead information for people interested specifically in any company.

All in all, a great free resource.
